It takes a village … do you remember that platitude from the past? It grew to broad popularity then melted into obsolescence like ice cubes on a sizzling hot sidewalk. (do you feel warmer now)
This morning I looked up ‘thanks’ in a concordance and started reading scripture that revealed a true spirit of thankfulness. It was steroids for the soul. If you’re looking for just one chapter to refresh you, try Psalm 107. But here’s my favorite Psalm 106:47 “Save us, Lord our God, and gather us from the nations, that we may give thanks to your holy name and glory in your praise.”
I was thinking of how we celebrate as a society, especially when enticed by the vivacious spirit of holidays. Conversations focused on one topic segue into the casual, “Got any plans for the holiday?” or “What are you doing over the holiday?”
Someone posted this fill in the blank question yesterday “I am thankful for _____________.” It’s not a new question and the answers, many repetitive, were all true representations of authentic thankfulness. Since I practice the answer to that question and have answered it multiple times, this time the response had to be original.
“I am thankful for multiple methods of communicating” with people we love and care about. Email, telephone, texting, social media. Awhile back I must have been listening to a message in Colossians because I highlighted this verse Colossians 4:8 “I am sending him to you for the express purpose that you may know about our circumstances and that he may encourage your hearts.” God puts people in our lives to fill a purpose and he puts us in the lives of others to fill a purpose. What can we do with that?
Today is Thanksgiving … just the start of another year of ThanksLiving!
