The super hero of Easter does not wear floppy ears.

There’s a new show in town. Maybe you’ve hear of it. Batman v Superman. I rarely pay attention to titles of movies and I’m selective of those that I see, but this one bothered me. When did the good guys turn their focus from catching the villain and start pouring all their energy into competing with each other? When did the story stray from hunting down the bad guy to a super hero becoming the bad guy? I’m secretly glad the ratings got barely above 1 star. OK well now that I said it, I guess it isn’t all that secret. If you saw the movie and loved it, I’m not going to rain on your parade. I’m just sad that movie producers and screenwriters are so desperate for notoriety that they’ve now turned good guys into competitive, finger pointing, intolerant, fanatics who prey on each other. Forbes magazine says “‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’ is a treat for the eyes, but it will hurt your brain and break your heart.” Super hero pitted against super hero is just one more evidence that they are not super at all.
There is one Super Hero who is always good, always righteous, always faithful, and His power is limitless. Jesus Christ competes with no one. I don’t want to trivialize Jesus Christ. In no way do I compare him to a Hollywood movie character, but we all have our heroes, friends we look up to, people we admire. We might even wish to be like a super hero character when we’re tenuously attempting to do something we’ve never done before. We’re human, and that’s what humans do. We have role models and we become role models.Hero - with 2 bible verses
Jesus Christ is my super hero. Jesus Christ is the role model I aspire to. If we are going to aspire to become more like anyone, it should be Jesus Christ. Matthew 5:48 says, “Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.” I know. That’s a pretty scary verse, but don’t let it scare you into inertia. Instead, think of it as motivation for doing good. Let’s face it Jesus was perfect in every way and we will never be that. We will never perform perfectly or be without flaws. Even our super heroes of this life make mistakes. Human heroes commit sin. Human heroes hurt us and let us down. Romans 3:10 lays it out for us. “As it is written: “There is no one righteous, not even one.”
It’s not looking like a very good day for human Super Heroes, is it? We will make mistakes, choose unwisely, and do dumb things. Whether intentionally or unknowingly we will commit sin. That’s because every human person, regardless of race, color, gender, or any other characteristic that makes them unique, was born with sin in their heart. No matter how perfectly we live now, Romans 3:23 says, “All have sinned.” All is a pretty broad term. That includes me. It includes every person who has human DNA.
Jesus Christ Super Hero, was sent to Earth by his father, God, to cover the sin of every person and wash it away with his own blood. When Jesus was beaten and bloody, nailed to the cross, it wasn’t for sin he had committed, it was for the sin every person on earth was born into. 1 John 1:7 Explains that it was the blood of Jesus Christ that washes away sin. And Revelation 1:5 says “Christ loves us, and by his blood he set us free from our sins.”
I was taught all these truths from the day I was born. “Romans 3:22 Righteousness is given through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference between Jew and Gentile.” Every person, including me could be righteous in God’s eyes. Yet it wasn’t until I was 26 years old that I finally turned my heart over to God and believed in his power to give me a new life in Christ. . “If you believe deep in your heart that God raised Jesus from the pit of death and if you voice your allegiance by confessing the truth that “Jesus is Lord,” then you will be saved! 10 Belief begins in the heart and leads to a life that’s right with God; confession departs from our lips and brings eternal salvation. Romans 10:9-10”  I told God that I was sorry for not believing in Jesus, I confessed my sin and asked the holy spirit to clean me up from the inside out. I’m thankful for 2 Peter 3:9 “The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.” Now I could emulate Christ and become a super hero in God’s eyes.
That day in heaven, I became a human super hero – or maybe I was just celebrated as one. At least that’s what it sounds like in Luke 15:7 “I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent.”
Tomorrow is Easter Sunday. It’s not the colored eggs, it’s not the fuzzy bunny with floppy ears, it’s not the ham or the family gathered around the dinner table. Easter is the celebration of Resurrection. Easter remembers that Jesus died a horrific, painful, bloody death and he went to the grave for you and for me. Then after three days, just like he promised, he rose from death. 1 Corinthians 15:3-4 “ Christ died for our sins, as the Scriptures say;  that he was buried and was raised to life on the third day as the Scriptures say.”
Humanly speaking, I will never be a super hero, and that’s OK. Heavenly speaking, I will always be a super hero to my Father. He looks at me and sees his daughter, a masterpiece, “the product of His hand, heaven’s poetry etched on lives, created in the Anointed, Jesus, to accomplish the good works God already planned.”  Ephesians 2:10
This Easter, accept Jesus. There is no competition, just say yes and become his child, his super hero. You are already his masterpiece.
